Who We Are
The Launceston Musical Society is a non-profit, locally based, amateur theatre group whose aim is to produce quality, professional-style musical productions for the enjoyment of the Launceston community. Under the auspices of the LMS is the Vox Harmony Choir, a singing group that provides its members with the opportunity to sing at many varied occasions throughout Tasmania.
The LMS actively encourages youth participation and provides the opportunity for young members to follow their dream through the presentation of the annual Judy Yates Award. We pride ourselves on ensuring that newcomers and unknowns are given the opportunity to become a part of our productions by auditioning all roles for every production.

Our History
The society began on 17th June, 1981 as the Launceston Light Opera Society. The first show produced by the Society was "HMS Pinafore" in 1982 at Broadland House. From humble beginnings in the school hall, the Society has gone from strength to strength over the years.
In 1988 the Society staged their first large scale musical, "Waltzes from Vienna" at the Princess Theatre where most of our productions are now staged. Smaller shows are usually performed at the Earl Arts Centre.
In 2001 the Society decided to enhance their image by changing its name to the Launceston Musical Society. To celebrate our metamorphosis from an operatic society to one that encompasses any production with a musical component, we persented a sell-out season of "The Sound of Music".
