2011
Alex Thompson with Mr Craig Yates
Alex is 18 years of age and is currently in his final year of studies at Launceston College. Alex is no stranger to the stage in particular the Princess, having been involved in many local shows. Oliver! was Alex’s first LMS production and he thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people and taking on the challenge of his character, Noah.
His musical theatre debut was Fiddler on the Roof (Launceston Players). In 2007 Alex featured in the all singing, all dancing Eurobeat (Launceston Players). Most recently Alex has appeared in Encore’s The Boy from Oz, Les Misérables and High School Musical, as Ryan. Whilst at Launceston College, Alex has been involved in Back to the ‘80s and Aida as a lead performer and he was also involved in their production of Romeo and Juliet earlier this year. Last weekend Alex competed in the state final of Storm the Stage. In the upcoming months he will be applying and auditioning for many performing art schools around the country. He hopes he will be accepted to one of the schools so he can learn and pursue his love which is musical theatre.
Alex said he was humbled and delighted to receive the Award.
“I am so honoured to receive this Award and I sincerely thank the Yates family for this wonderful opportunity. I love performing and know that this Award will assist in supporting that love,” Mr Thompson said.
In announcing the Award, Robin Yates said that persistence and a positive attitude pay off.
“This young man has consistently put in effort and is focused on where he wants to go. If persistence has anything to do with it, Alex Thompson will go far,” Mr Yates said.
