What Was a Relaxed Performance?
In our Relaxed Performances, we focused on relaxing or adapting the theatre environment while maintaining the creative integrity of the show.
In a Relaxed Performance:
We made minor changes to sensory elements of the show, such as reducing bright lighting or loud noises.
There was a relaxed attitude toward noise and movement.
Guests were welcome to bring in, and use, stimming devices.
The theatre doors remained open, and the house lights stayed on, though dimmed, throughout the performance.
Attendees could leave the venue at any time, and a designated quiet area was available.
Pre-show resources, such as a Visual Story, were also provided to help guests prepare for their visit.
Who is a Relaxed Performance for?
Relaxed Performances are for anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment. This can include, but is not limited to, people with autism, sensory sensitivities, Tourette's syndrome, learning disabilities or dementia, as well as people living with anxiety or people who have experienced trauma.
What are Visual Stories
Visual Stories are designed to help prepare you for your visit and hopefully reduce any anxiety. They include information about the venue and what will happen during the performance. They can be especially helpful for people with autism or learning disabilities.
